Whiplash Helped With Chiropractic

Whiplash Helped With Chiropractic

An article published in the Journal of Orthopedic Medicine in 1999 pointed out the superiority of chiropractic care for patients suffering from long term whiplash. The authors of the article noted that a previous study had shown that 26 of 28 patients, or 93 percent, of patients with chronic whiplash benefited from chiropractic care. In the authors own study, they interviewed 100 consecutive chiropractic referrals of patients with chronic whiplash. Their results also showed that of the 93 patients who remained in the study, 69 of them, or 74 percent, found improvement. The researchers concluded their opening comments with the statement, "The results from this study provide further evidence that chiropractic is an effective treatment for chronic whiplash symptoms."

Abnormal Sleeping Patterns Helped With Chiropractic - A Case Study

Abnormal Sleeping Patterns Helped With Chiropractic - A Case Study A case study published in the July 2006 issue of the peer-reviewed, scientific publication, the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (JCCP) documented the effects of chiropractic care on a nine month old infant girl with a history of disturbed sleep. The JCCP is the official publication of the Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics of the International Chiropractors Association. The study article starts off by noting that the average 9 month old should sleep approximately 14 hours per day. In this case study a nine month old infant girl was presented for chiropractic care with a history of severely disrupted sleep and fussiness. Additionally, the infant was refusing to breastfeed on one side and exhibited, what was called a generally unsettled behavior. It was also noted that the child would not turn her head to the left. These problems had been occurring since birth. The examination confirmed a reduced range of neck motion to the left and significant muscle tension in the left and upper neck. Upon touching the neck the child exhibited signs of being in pain by crying and moving away. It was determined that subluxations were present, and an appropriate course of adjustments was initiated. The results in this case were very impressive. The study noted that on the afternoon after the infants first adjustment the baby girl fell asleep for 5 hours. This was followed by nighttime sleep of 2 periods of 6 hours each. Over the next three weeks of care the daytime sleep got shorter, but the nighttime sleep remained between 6 and 8 hours. In addition to the dramatic sleep improvement, the child also improved her range of neck motion and was able to turn her head to the left in response to sound on the left side. Additionally the infant began to feed freely and comfortably. In their conclusion, the authors of the case study noted that the dramatic improvements after just one adjustment indicated that the vertebral subluxation found in this case was at least in part responsible for the disrupted sleep pattern.

Athletic Shoes Are Important to Spinal Health

Athletic Shoes Are Important to Spinal Health

Poorly fitting athletic shoes can hurt your stride and therefore your spine. This information was reported in a Dec. 6, 2005 release appearing on PRNewswire. According to the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), footwear plays an important role in the functional biomechanics of the human body.

The article also reports that improperly-fitting shoes can do more than hurt a runner's stride, they can upset a person's overall biomechanics and lead to pain throughout the body. Dr. Jeffery Solomon, president of the ACA's Council on Sports Injuries & Physical Fitness noted, "Your feet are the foundation of your body, and if they are not properly supported you can have problems anywhere from the bottom of your feet up through your neck."

The article posted several tips to consider before a runner should purchase their next pair of running shoes. These are:

  • Be sure to match the right shoe to the right activity.
  • If possible, purchase running shoes from a specialty store or from someone knowledgeable about matching the correct type of running shoes to your foot type and stride pattern.
  • Select shoes with adequate cushioning in the soles, which helps absorb the shock of your feet hitting the ground. Cushioning is especially important when running on hard surfaces, such as pavement or sidewalks.
  • Check for adequate room at the widest part of your foot. The shoe shouldn't be tight, but your foot shouldn't slide around, either.
  • Consider custom made orthotic insoles. Orthotics can address structural abnormalities in the feet and the resultant biomechanical faults.

Will Chiropractic Help Me?

Posted on 2011-12-09 07:14:35

Will Chiropractic Help Me?

In a word, YES! But does this mean chiropractic will make you feel better with your particular health problem?

Your body is self-healing. This means your body can correct most of its own health problems. But this can only happen if your body is functioning normally. Your nervous system is the master controller of all function in your body. It is the job of your nerve system to see that everything is functioning properly and keeping you healthy.

So, Will Chiropractic Help Me?

In a word, YES! But it is your body that ultimately heals you and helps you feel better. Chiropractors do not claim to heal you or cure you. Healing come from inside you.

It is your nerve system that controls the function of your body and ultimately your health. Any interference to your nerve system will effect the function of your body and therefore effect your body's ability to keep you healthy.

In essence, only you can cure you. What the chiropractor does is to locate and remove interference to your nervous system and thus allow your body's healing abilities to take over.

The Subluxation.

This interference to your nervous system occurs when bones in your spine (vertebrae) move out of alignment and pressure or irritate the nerves that come out from between the spinal vertebrae. This then causes the nerve system to malfunction. When your nerves malfunction, parts of your body will function at less than 100% of their abilities.

When these vertebrae move out of place and cause interference to your nervous system, it is known as a Subluxation. Chiropractors seek to correct subluxations by a series of specific chiropractic adjustments to your spine. By correcting these subluxations you are allowing your nervous system to work normally and therefore allowing your body to heal itself.

So One More Time, Will Chiropractic Help Me?

In a word, YES! Chiropractic helps you by working to free your nervous system of interference from subluxations. This then allows your body's own innate healing power to help heal you of whatever problems you may have.

Chiropractic actually helps you return to health by removing interference to your body's nervous system. How much better you feel, or how much relief you get from any particular health problem depends on the length of time you have had your subluxations and your body's healing capabilities.

Doctors of Chiropractic do not treat your pain, symptoms or diseases. They work to help your body's own innate healing abilities, so that you can heal yourself.

Millions of people have found health after suffering with all kinds of problems. Your body will always be better off with a nervous system free of interference from subluxations.

I get it, I heal me!
But is my body capable of helping me with my problem?

The human body is an amazing thing. It has capabilities far beyond what most people give it credit for. The ultimate answer of how healthy you can be rests entirely with your own body's innate abilities.

Most people notice very good results under chiropractic care. This is because removing interference to your nerve system, by correcting subluxations, gives you the best chance for your body to heal itself so you can return to total good health.

Under chiropractic care, not only should you feel better, but with your nerve system functioning better, you should actually be healthier.

Water, Water, Everywhere, and Much More Than a Drop We Should Drink

Water, Water, Everywhere, and Much More Than a Drop We Should Drink

From the website accenthealth.com comes a feature article By Rosalee Sanchez on the benefits of water. We all know that water is an absolute requirement for life, but few of us realize just how important water really is. Here are some facts and information about water from the article.

  • Every day, you lose somewhere between 48 and 96 ounces (6 to 12 cups) of water through your skin, lungs, urinary tract and bowels. All of this water loss must be replaced.
  • Water is an essential nutrient. It keeps you hydrated, which lets your body perspire and cool down. Without sweating you will overheat.
  • Water makes up more than half our body weight, and is part of all body fluids, such as blood, digestive juices and urine.
  • Water helps carry away toxins and waste products within your body.
  • Water helps lubricate tissues, such as those around the brain, eyes, mouth, nose, spinal cord and bone joints.

Because of the importance water plays in our health. The article had several recommendations. First the old concept of eight glasses of water may not be enough. You may need to consume 10 to 12 eight-ounce glasses of fluid a day, depending on how much water your body loses daily. Not drinking enough water can result in mild dehydration. This is a situation that many believe exists in almost 60% of the population. Mild dehydration can lead to diminished physical and mental performance, reduced salivary gland function, childhood obesity and increased risk of kidney stones and mitral valve prolapsed in susceptible people, as well as increased risk of urinary tract cancers, colon cancer and breast cancer.

Infants Need Chiropractic Care!

Infants Need Chiropractic Care!

This statement confuses some people who believe that chiropractic is a back pain profession. In reality chiropractic deals with correcting subluxations. Subluxations are areas of interference to the nervous system caused by pressure or irritation from spinal bones. Chiropractors correct subluxations. One of the most common causes of a subluxation in an infant is the birth process.

Chiropractors have been warning the public of the danger to newborns from the common birth processes used today. Birth is a natural phenomenon that should not be viewed or treated as a medical condition. However, in an attempt to "manage" the birth process, many problems are created.

The most prevalent danger chiropractors have been warning about when it comes to the birth process is Traumatic Birth Syndrome resulting in the creation of subluxations. Numerous articles and experts have warned of the damage that occurs to the nervous system in the neck of newborns during the trauma involved in the common birth process. This damage ranges from mild subluxations in the upper neck to more serious subluxations involving spinal cord damage, neural hemorrhage and central nervous system problems.

Many authorities suggest that the position of the mother coupled with the pulling from the delivering physician has a lot to do with the creation of this subluxation related problems. When the delivering mother is lying on her back she is not only working partially against gravity but she has reduced the pelvic opening size. These two factors then require the attending physician to pull harder on the head of the child. This increased pulling and twisting during the birth process, coupled with a decrease in the pelvic opening and a non alignment with gravity often set the stage for birth trauma, subluxation and the resulting problems.

Health consequences to the newborn from subluxations caused from birth trauma range from immediate and severe to hidden problems that may take years to surface. Some of the more immediate and tragic results that have been documented are spinal cord and brain stem injuries, brain bleeding and swelling, neurological deficits, breathing problems and even sudden infant death syndrome.

The long-term consequences are as varied as the nerve system itself. Some of the more commonly mentioned problems that have been linked to traumatic birth are learning disabilities, headaches, visual and hearing problems, certain palsies, and a number of immune functional problems.

Many experts are now suggesting that birth be handled as a normal and natural process. One of their suggestions is for the birthing position of choice to be an upright position of sitting or squatting, using gravity to assist the birth process. This would result in less force being used for delivery and reduce the trauma from birth and the subluxation related effects.

Chiropractors have been stressing for years the importance of having newborns checked for vertebral subluxations. Checking the spine of an infant is painless and easy. The importance of a developing baby being free of nerve interference from subluxation cannot be understated. Even infants that appear healthy may have subluxations due to traumatic birth syndrome. All babies deserve the best chance at a healthy happy life. Babies deserve Chiropractic
